Food for thought – there is a difference between busy and busyness, think about that for a minute. I’m too busy to do that because… list 3-5 things on your to-do-list. Busyness is a list of 10 things that you might need to do and then getting distracted by something else. At the end of the day you realize you were busy running from one thing to the next but have no idea what you did or what you got done.
One definition of busyness that I just read defines it perfectly:
“The state of being or appearing to be actively engaged in an activity
We encourage busyness, we praise those who are working 60, 70, 80 hours a week plus putting on a 7 course meal for 30 friends over the weekend. What? When did that become something to cheer about?
What about having less so you we can work less and enjoy more? What about carving more time for writing letters to encourage a sick friend, a call to an aging relative who would love a bright spot in their day, or sitting down to read a good book or going for a run?
So what are you doing today that is just appears to be busy? It’s a convicting question for me and one I need to take a closer look at and start making some changes today.
