The Fearlessness Muscle

fearlessnessasamuscle

This is a quote that struck me and totally caught my attention. Just like so many things in our lives we need to exercise certain  muscles to grow stronger, fearlessness is no different.

Taking that firs step forward, fighting back against the uncertainty and fear is one of the hardest steps to take. If we keep taking that next step, the next step and the next step we get stronger and more confident.

This applies to so many areas of our lives, relationships, business decisions, adventure, trying something new, pushing out of our comfort zone.

If we would keep doing this same exercise over and over and over again, I think we would find that the fear will still there, making its presence known, but we are not so afraid that it paralyzes and stops us. That is an amazing place to be.

So today the challenge for all of us is to take one step forward and try something. Even if it ends up being the wrong thing, try moving forward and see what happens. Actions speak louder then words and stepping forward even just one spot speaks volumes, way more then just saying you are going to move forward.

Sitting Still Has Never Been Easy For Me

Never. Just ask my Mommy.

sittingstillhasneverbeeneasy

I was a bit of a nightmare growing up. I rarely sat still, had a mind of my own and couldn’t entertain myself all that well until I found chapter books.

Just so you can commiserate with my Mom, here are some examples of what she had to deal with…

  1. I stopped taking naps at age 2.
  2. When our family would go out to restaurants I would climb out of the high chair via going OVER the tray. Yeah, eating out was a blast with me around.
  3. In pre-school my Mom finally had to write a note to the teacher to not force me to take a nap. I could never understand why the other kids were sleeping! I would just keep talking to my bestie as she would fall asleep, even keeping her awake sometimes. Eventually they just let me stay awake and play in another room as long as I was quiet. Working & Resting

Another reminder that that there needs to be alignment between your activities (or lack of activity) and your priorities. It is HARD, so very hard to do but oh so important to remember and do.

Dealing with fear

There are a lot of things to be fearful of these days. I won’t list a bunch that come to mind here, your list will be different from mine, but we all do have our own list don’t we? I bet as soon as you started to read this your own list popped to mind.

Each of us deals with and react to that list in our own way. Sometimes it is an emotional response, sometimes it travels deep inside into the gut and just sit there, at times it flares up in the form of a panic attack or even depression. And sometimes it is a paralyzing combination of several.

For the past few days I have been hit with what I can only describe as a spirit of fear. My list recently seems to be growing… [Read more…]

Where does your definition of success and value come from?

rushagainstrest

Why do we rush get so busy and not rest? There are a myriad reasons to be sure but for me a lot of times – it is guilt. I know dumb right?

I’m comparing myself to others and their schedules AND their decisions on priorities. Comparison is dangerous and it is rarely healthy. My priorities are unique, my situation is different from theirs and I’m being led in a different direction. When I am in alignment with my beliefs and what God has place in my life and heart my schedule and activities will be different from everyone else.

Society does equate success on an entirely different set of values then I do, so using that as a measuring stick for my success is the wrong way to go.
